MoonShield: The Game
Context:
The Thales group must recruit 7000 engineers per year worldwide as of 2009.Thales wanted to increase its reputation and improve its image, and above all present different professions and areas of excellence of the group.
The Moonshield project was delivered October 1st & will be presented at student trade shows during the autumn & winter 2008-2009.
Project Objectives:
• Improve awareness of the THALES group• Presnt the professions and areas of excellence of the group
• Establish a rapport with a young generation accustomed to video games
The Project:
Storyline:

On a beautiful Earth-lit night in August 2029, the sensors of the lunar base MOONSHIELD are tracking the killer asteroid 201P WILD. With a diameter of over 800km WILD is the size of a small planet, and all eyes are riveted on holographic screens, as the asteroid plunges at 50km / s toward Mars. Earthbound scientists have estimated the probability of an impact of WILD & Mars at 0,001% ... but more recent calculations made at MOONSHIELD are a far more alarming 5%! How could the asteroid have deviated from its path in so short a time? Tension is running high.
And soon, whether it was one chance in twenty or one in one hundred thousand makes no difference, as WILD is caught in the gravitational field of the Red Planet, and under the horrified eyes of mankind the collision of the two bodies give birth to myriad asteroids hurtling toward the inner solar system - straight toward the Earth!
You take command of the lunar base.
The good news: It's the end of your budget problems, you have carte blanche to save the Earth.
The challenge: You will have to think quickly and use everything at your disposal to save the blue planet! As commander of MOONSHIELD, you can call on all the scientific resources of the Thales group to help you make the best possible decisions.
Your mission is to destroy or deflect these asteroids and defence that will save the Earth from a fiery apocalypse.
Gameplay:

• Developing the lunar base,
• Destrying asteroids that menace the Earth or the Moon
Developing the Lunar Base:
Expanding the base means constantly increasing your flow of resources (human resources, goods consumed and materials technology) and expanding your storage capacity. As the player advances in the game, he is able to build more eccicient intricate structures and installations. It is vital for the player to increase his storage capacity and management skills. Each building is based on a signature Thales technology, which is presented by a Thales engineer specialised in that particular field.
The player must hone his management skills to ensure that his personnel are satisfied & that he has all the resources he needs to succeed in his principal mission - destrying the asteroids that menace the Earth.
Destroying Asteroids:
The player must use qualities such as decision making & situational analysis to successfully destroy the asteroids that menace the Earth.
The player can build detection installations to identify asteroids quickly, and to assess the extent of the damage in case of impact with the Earth.
The player must, thanks to information received by the buildings of detection, assess the best way forward (by either deflecting or destroying the asteroids) to avoid disaster. The player must resolve each new threat individually as it appears, according to the time available and the probability of success.
The player has at his disposal an arsenal based on THALES technologies to handle the threats from the heavens.
Key figures:
• 250 000 games played
